This was a fun class to teach. Starting from the right to left we have; Paul and Colleen Hallinan,THE WIZARD of bicycle aerodynamics(not in the class but graced us with his presence ), Craig Rosa, James Stewart and yours truly “the instructor” Chris Duncan. Not pictured, but also gracing us with his presence as a student was Pete Campbell(he was behind me in the photo.) On this day we worked on how to pump and why doing that correctly will lead to having proper body positions for jumping. We also worked on where to focus your vision when jumping. I held a pumping competition to see who could GAIN the most speed from pumping the rollers. Craig Rosa won the contest and took home a brand new WTB Prowler XT. In order for the students to keep up, they had to first conquer the puzzle of fore to aft (front to back)body movement. Fore to Aft movement is the main stay of Jumping. So, to learn to jump you must first learn to pump. All the riders enjoyed the competition and learned a thing or two about pumping rollers.
Here’s a video that explain's the various techniques of pumping and how it relates to every day ridding.
Bonus
After the class Jamie Stewart showed us his best attempt at putting the pumping techniques towards actual jumping. Here's the video.
